SPEEDFEST | 11a – 8 pm | Join Downtown Topeka Inc. and Heartland Park Topeka for their inaugural SPEEDFEST event, a time to celebrate racing in America’s heartland.

8th Street between Kansas and Quincy avenues will be blocked off for this free event featuring numerous race cars on display including NHRA Top Fuel cars, dirt track cars, motorcycles and more. Fans will enjoy event activities including music, food, fan giveaways, and a kid’s zone, among others. The highlight of the day will give fans
a chance to meet some of the fastest drivers in the world during an autograph session with some of the greatest of NHRA racing, beginning at 5p.

Key organizations participating in the planning of this event include Downtown Topeka, Inc., Coca-Cola, Cumulus Broadcasting of Topeka, WIBW-TV and NHRA.

Movie on the Lawn

This weeks showing of the Movie on the Lawn series will feature “Dark Command.” This is the series last movie. The movie starts around 9 p.m. and will be shown on the capitol grounds. If you can’t sit on the ground, you can bring a lawn chair but you must sit on a sidewalk. Lawn chairs are not allowed on the Statehouse grass.
